Archer Daniels Midland Co. engages in the processing of oilseeds, corn, wheat, cocoa, and other agricultural commodities. The company operates through three segments: Oilseeds Processing, Corn Processing, and Agricultural Services. The Oilseeds Processing segment includes activities related to the origination, merchandising, crushing, and further processing of oilseeds such as soybeans and soft seeds, like cottonseed, sunflower seed, canola, rapeseed, and flaxseed into vegetable oils and protein meals. This segment also produces natural health and nutrition products and other food and feed ingredients. The Corn Processing segment is engaged in corn wet milling and dry milling activities and also converts corn into sweeteners, starches and bioproducts. Its products also include citric and lactic acids, lactates, sorbitol, xanthan gum and glycols which are used in various food and industrial products. The Agricultural Services segment utilizes its extensive U.S. grain elevator and global transportation network to buy, store, clean, and transport agricultural commodities, such as oilseeds, corn, wheat, milo, oats, rice and barley, and resells these commodities primarily as food and feed ingredients and as raw materials for the agricultural processing industry. The company was founded in 1923 and is headquartered in Decatur, IL.
