The company operates its business through the following segments: Individuals and Small & mid-sized, Companies & Institutions, Global Banking & Markets and Corporate Activities. The Individuals and Small & mid-sized segment provides customers with a variety of services, including consumer loans, credit cards, auto loans, commercial loans, foreign exchange, mortgage loans, debit cards, checking accounts, savings products, mutual funds, stock brokerage and insurance brokerage. The Companies & Institutions segment includes middle market, real estate, large corporations and institutions such as universities and local and regional governments. The Global Banking & Markets segment consist foreign and domestic multinational companies with sales over Ch$10,000 million. The companies within this segment have access to many products, including commercial loans, leasing, factoring, foreign trade, credit cards, mortgage loans, checking accounts, transactional services, treasury services, financial consulting, investments, savings products, mutual funds and insurance brokerage. This segment also provides sophisticated financial products, mainly to companies in the wholesale banking area and the companies segment. These include products such as short-term financing and fund raising, brokerage services, derivatives, securitization and other tailor-made products. The Corporate Activities segment includes financial management, which provides global management functions, involving the parent company’s structural interest risk and liquidity risk. Banco Santander was founded on September 7, 1977 and is headquartered in Santiago, Chile.
