Select Medical Holdings Corp. operates hospitals and outpatient rehabilitation clinics. It also provides medical rehabilitation services on a contract basis at nursing homes, hospitals, assisted living and senior care centers, schools, and worksites. The company operates through two business segments: Specialty Hospital and Outpatient Rehabilitation. The Specialty Hospital segment consists of hospitals designed to serve the needs of long term stay acute patients and hospitals designed to serve patients that require intensive inpatient medical rehabilitation care. It offers services to those patients who have specialized needs, and serious and often complex medical conditions such as respiratory failure, neuromuscular disorders, traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries, strokes, non-healing wounds, cardiac disorders, renal disorders, and cancer. The Outpatient Rehabilitation segment consists of clinics and contract services that provide physical, occupational, and speech rehabilitation services. It provides certain programs such as functional programs for work related injuries, hand therapy, and athletic training services. The outpatient rehabilitation patients are typically diagnosed with musculoskeletal impairments that restrict their ability to perform normal activities of daily living. Select Medical Holdings was founded in October 2004 and is headquartered in Mechanicsburg, PA.
