It operates through the following segments: Casualty, Property, and Surety. The Casualty segment comprises of general liability, personal umbrella, transportation, executive products, commercial umbrella, multi-peril program, and package business and other specialty coverages, such as professional liability for design professionals. The Property segment consists of commercial fire, earthquake, difference in conditions, marine, facultative and treaty reinsurance, including crop, and select personal lines policies, including pet insurance and homeowners. The Surety segment specializes in writing small-to-large commercial and contract surety coverages, as well as those for the energy, petrochemical, and refining industries. The company was founded by Gerald D. Stephens in 1965 and is headquartered in Peoria, IL.
